Hello to all. This is my post on the final entry in Flir’s new point-and-shoot line – the Flir E8. I actually had an opportunity to spend some hands on time with this particular camera a couple weeks before launch and it is awesome. The MSX technology that was previously included only on the ultra-expensive FLIR models is now standard on all their cameras and it looks great. Now the Flir E8 has a resolution of 320x240 which certainly helps with how good the images look but the MSX feature is truly amazing. It is essentially like looking with a digital camera except that you can see the thermal spectrum. Of course it is not quite as precise as a visible light image but it’s darn close. You can even read the instruction manual’s text through the camera. It’s that good. Just imagine how helpful this will be when dealing with breakers or any equipment that includes labeling that you basically could not see before. This technology, especially at the price points now set by FLIR’s new line, opens a huge range of applications for this amazing technology.
